Lifetime Membership
A generous gift to the climate movement at a most critical time
What is it?
A Lifetime Member has the capacity to scale up their investment in climate and understands that every dollar committed now will have an outsized impact on climate solutions. By donating $10,000 now (rather than giving a regular donation over several years) you’re making an upfront investment in our safe climate future.
Why give collectively?
A giving circle brings together like-minded people who pool their resources to make a collective impact. This kind of giving goes beyond your donation; it fosters a culture of participation and shared responsibility, deepening our understanding of climate issues so we can together decide what to fund. At Groundswell, no matter how much you pitch in, everybody gets a vote on where funding should be directed, but with a Lifetime Membership you are leveraging your impact and accelerating meaningful climate action.
What’s involved?
Vote in each grant round alongside all Groundswell members
Invitations to Groundswell events
Exclusive invitations to Groundswell Climate Fellowship trips
What impact will I have?
Twice a year Groundswell gives out multiple $40,000 grants to strategic climate advocacy organisations, as voted on by our members. When pooled, a Lifetime Membership donation has a significant impact on this work – it might determine whether an organisation can hire that part-time campaigner, run a marketing campaign ahead of an upcoming State election, or invest in policy research to get you in front of a Federal MP.
Here’s some of the big wins Groundswell grants have helped make happen recently:
FrontRunners launched their landmark report ‘Sports, Climate Change and Legal Liability’, developed in partnership with the Environmental Defenders Office, which led to both policy and practical changes in some of the country’s biggest sports, including the AFL, which is in the process of developing its first sustainability and emissions reduction strategy.
Since Comms Declare launched their Fossil Ad Ban campaign, 12 Australian councils, including the City of Sydney, have voted to ban fossil fuel advertising and sponsorships.
Grata is supporting Uncle Pabai and Uncle Paul’s Australian Climate Case – two Traditional Owners and Native Title rights holders from the Torres Strait suing the Australian Government for negligence. If successful, this may force the government to reduce emissions in line with the best available science.
Groundswell Giving operates both as a sub-fund of Australian Communities Foundation ABN 57967620066, as well a separate DGR1 registered charity Groundswell Giving Ltd ABN 86 660 758 985.
