What do Jubilee Australia do?
Jubilee’s work addresses the complex intersection of renewable energy and responsible mining, advocating for policies that support both environmental protection and Indigenous rights. Their work connects diverse stakeholders, from climate advocates to Indigenous leaders, fostering unity within the climate movement to safeguard Australia’s transition to a clean energy future.
Why is this work important?
With increasing pressure on Australia to supply minerals for the renewable energy sector, the potential for divisive narratives and misinformation grows. Without careful management, public confidence in renewables could erode, and the climate movement could be divided. Jubilee’s work is essential in building consensus and resisting the influence of fossil fuel interests that seek to exploit these tensions. By aligning environmental, economic, and social interests, Jubilee helps protect the integrity of Australia’s renewable energy transition and the communities affected by mining.
How is Groundswell supporting this work?
Groundswell’s funding will support Jubilee’s core organisational needs, primarily by enabling additional staff to respond to the growing demand for coordination and technical expertise. With this support, Jubilee can:
Increase the frequency of stakeholder dialogues, bringing together civil society groups with divergent views to find common ground;
Expand research into critical mineral supply chains, providing civil society groups with accurate information to guide policy positions on renewable energy and mining;
Organise public workshops and expert panels, including bringing international experts to Australia to share insights on best practices in renewable mineral mining.
