What do Green Music Australia do?
Green Music Australia (GMA) is harnessing the cultural influence of musicians to drive climate action. Through the No Music on a Dead Planet campaign, GMA empowers artists like Jimmy Barnes and Tame Impala to use their platforms to inspire millions of fans to vote for a sustainable future at the next federal election.
Why is this work important?
Music has the unique ability to unite and inspire people across communities, demographics, and ideologies. With over 16 million Australians subscribed to music streaming services and 400,000 attending live music events every Saturday night, artists are trusted messengers capable of reaching beyond climate-conscious audiences. As economic uncertainty risks sidelining climate action, musicians can galvanise public support, combat misinformation, and mobilise young voters to demand meaningful policies that address the climate crisis.
How is Groundswell supporting this work?
Groundswell’s funding will enable GMA to scale the No Music on a Dead Planet campaign and expand its impact. Specifically, this support will:
Deliver kits to 200 artists and re-engage top influencers from previous campaigns while growing participation by 66%.
Host activations at festivals in key electorates, such as Bluesfest (Richmond) and Brunswick Music Festival (Wills), to drive voter engagement.
Empower artists through leadership workshops at major music industry events like BIGSOUND and SXSW.
Launch an extensive PR and digital campaign to maximise reach across national and regional press.
Partner with venues in key seats to showcase campaign messages through displays and projections.
